There are many comparisons throughout the Godflesh spectrum if you listen deep enough. What exactly were you all expecting anyway?

It's a NEW Godflesh release, and we should be all thankful for it. Just enjoy it for what it is, not for what it isn't. After a Phoenix is reborn things are never the same anyway.

I for one will not be dissecting it for any little shift or nuance that may fall into a previously recognised pattern or style, undoubtedly characterised by constant changes of direction.

In short, I like it, and I will probably like it more as time goes on.

I basically agree with this.... I like the new e.p. and haven't felt the urge to analyze why I like it or what era of Godflesh it primarily evokes.

However.... I would add the caveat that hair-splitting is what music nerds like us do and I wouldn't want to deprive anyone of that pleasure!

I agree with both these 2 points...and I'd also like to add a third point: which is that it pains me to have to agree with the Yoga Pansy...

I agree with everything that everyone says except the Yoga Pansy on hair splitting, which is what this comment is, hair splitting.

All hair-splitting aside.... Princess Elrrekia and the Lady DoomBride are massive twonks.

when i had the long hair, i found that paul mitchell leave-in conditioner was good for preventing the split hairs, leaving you with a lustrous, bill steer mane.

I still feel this release is a bit of a disappointment.

i didn't really have high hopes for it to begin with. i think it is solid. i would just rather hear the new lp of material since half of this is older stuff they recently recorded, if that story is right. i will commend bands for reuniting and attempting to make new music rather than just playing their old stuff to death, but it is usually impossible for a band to be broken up that long and come back with something that matches their original output.

I'm sure there were really high expectations prior to that release.

I don't want the "old Godflesh" sound back from streetcleaner. I mean streetcleaner was the right sound at the right time, same as all other outputs and each release has an unique ambiance.

The new one is actually something i personally expected. It is bloody similar to that sound they're playing live after Hellfest 2010. Stronger focus on the guitar sound, more riff-y than everything before.

I think this is very solid too and i hope too that the new album will sound bit different to that. I would wish more atmosphere in the background of the tracks maybe like "blind" from Merciless. Or maybe it could be totally differnt as Us And Them. Robert Hampson btw?? Hm.. why not

I'd like to say that I can't believe people are whinging about a perfectly good Godflesh release after all this time. But given this crowd, I can believe it, unfortunately.

Whining puts a negative spin on it, but i don't see anything out of the ordinary on discussing and critiquing a new work here. some people love it, some don't, some want to get into all the bits and pieces. it's what i'd think a message board dedicated to a band/musician would be for.

if anything, i'd call it healthy that it elicits varied response.

We lost our Master Whinger a couple of years ago when the Tim-ferno Blaster stopped posting.

Nothing can muck up a message board faster than a long-winded Canadian with shit magnets for ears.

sniggering

exactly, i don't see anyone "whining" about it. just because a new record is out doesn't mean everyone should automatically force themselves to like it or claim it as brilliant if they don't think it is.

If you like I'll have a long whine about how shit Selfless is? It's something I like to do.

As always the Klaw-racle is right. How ridiculous would it be if we all had a mass Skype session with our pants down tugging off and headbanging to Ringer. The best part is when people carry out vigorous discourse on the topic. I think any sentiment that we should all like it just because its new Godflesh and we should be grateful is rubbish. As for me I liked it the night I bought it. Then last night I did about four hours of painting listening to nothing but the Flesh. New EP once, first album twice, Streetcleaner and Slavestate. I think I was drunk with excitedness when I first got it but rather than growing on me I think it's growing off me a bit.

I think a bit more hair related conversation is needed here.

Well, I've been alternating some of the cuts with the stuff from Messiah - the dubs all work nicely and the effectively 8 regular versions sound good to me. I'm ready for the new LP.

I think it's funny that it's all taken so seriously.

Razz

And everyone knows that the records title is "Poor", come on!

Selfless is the pinnacle of nu-metal. I am also a big fan of Coal Chamber 'cos I'm so LO-CO!

it's growing on me, "ringer" may wind up being the best track on the ep, it's extremely heavy and the machines and bass are killer, could've used another drum event or two....

"playing with fire" is the weakspot on the LP, that riff has to go!

It's definitely a grower, and I have high hopes for the new LP.
Faves are probably Dogbite & Playing With Fire Dub at the moment, but it's all good stuff, dear.
