I've been waiting literally YEARS for this fucking thing to come out. I think they finished filming at least two years ago. The fact that the mighty TOM FUCKING HARDY is playing Max accounts for a big chunk of my excitement, in addition to my fanboy worship of the first two films.
Preordered Shout Factory's BluRay reissue of the original Mad Max for my viewing pleasure as I eagerly await Fury Road, which I will see opening day. |

ill see it but considering the fact is is pg13 and miller hasn't made a good movie in almost 35 years, i have pretty low expectations. would have much rather seen mel gibson in one about 20 years ago. also considering how much reboots/remakes/etc suck these days, i would be hesitant to expect a masterpiece. |

Actually, it has officially been Rated R for intense sequences of violence throughout, and for disturbing images, which makes it the most expensive R rated film in quite some time.
I agree that I shouldn't expect a masterpiece, although my expectations are still gonna be sky high, but it's actually a sequel and not a reboot, and from the original director, so I wouldn't dismiss it on those grounds. Plus, while I'd normally agree that a sequel 20 years ago with Mel would be better, it's TOM FUCKING HARDY. |

that must have just happened, b/c all of the chatter about it was that is was going to be pg13. i honestly think i am on the only person not excited about this. from what i've read, it's somewhere between a reboot and sequel. i think miller said it could have happened at any point between the mad max films, but he was keeping it close to the vest. i know miller is the original director, but you have to look at his body of work. since the second mad max he directed thunderdome, witches of eastwick, lorenzo's oil, and happy feet one and two. not only has he been scant in his output, it has all fucking sucked. i just don't think a director can go turn back the clock 30 years and pull a good movie out of his hat. i could be wrong, but history proves me right(at least so far). i like tom hardy, but i am not a huge fan. i do think he was probably the right choice for this one though. part of me would even like to see gibson play the role right now. stallone pulled it off in rambo 4. |

Looks a bit silly, no?
Reminds me more of Thunderdome than of the two first films, which isn't very promising.
I don't expect anything actually. Will preserve me from disappointment. |

There's definitely a cartoonish element to a lot of the images, although IMO that cartoonish look also applies to Mad Max 1 and 2. The real question, which the preview will not answer, is whether the violence has the grit of the first two films or not. We shall see, but the R rating bodes well.
Either way, I will be there opening day. |

this totally proves my point. they just want to make money and rehash the same shit. even if this movie is great(and it could be), who really thinks the world needs three more mad max movies? |

nice.
i only realized the other day the same actor that played Wez there also played Bennet in Commando.
I don't know how he went from so wild and menacing in MM2 to so goofy in Commando. American film director and a chainmail vest i guess... |

Second 5 star review ever in The Dissolve's history, according to the comments.
7 p.m. tonight............
From the comments on The AV Club:
HoorayForCaptainSpaulding buckett • 18 hours ago
I saw this movie, and I was okay, but my friend saw it and his dick fell off.
From The Dissolve's comments section:
Martin Jensen • an hour ago
Fuck, I'm seeing this film in just over an hour! Skipping out on a friend's barbecue... worth it.

Who in the fuck schedules a barbecue during the theatrical run of Mad Max: Fury Road? Your friend sounds like a real asshole. |

This is one of those 'don't wanna get my hopes up' movies that ended up being 'I can't fucking wait'. Positive reviews (esp for a bat-shit crazy movie like this) only helped compound that sentiment.
Heading to Canada tomorrow to see it (theater is better there). 3D...tho I don't care about that.
Fucking psyched. |
