for alf mostly:

I saw this thread get buried a while back but i figured i'd get around to posting before it died off.. here's my take on farewell.

Farewell
--------------------------------------
[1:03]
I just can't be it
Leave me behind
I don't want to go with you
unless they go
but they won't
they're far to inwards to
and curse them
the Situations out of hand
but they know
there's no answer
I can't do what they all want you to do.

[2:06]
So now
we'll lose
everything we start to keep
for our lives
their hands
I don't see how they will change
for you
And your goodwill
they take what they can
for themselves
on it's belief
and bid them a last farewell and
we'll show them

and we show them

-E

Why are we not perfect
----------------------------------
[1:24]
Faith
less

turn away
and turn on

faith
less

hope
to see them

why we
not perfect

then
we can
live forever

[2:50] (higher pitched singing)

faith
less

we turn away
content on

faith
less

hope to see them

we are,
are we
not perfect

then we,
we can
live forever

[4:11]
first verse repeats

----------------------------
and hiba was right about 'turn away, and turn on'

So, I see views... any of you regular lyrical whores (hiba, krowe, alf, whomever else) got any 'yes, no, fuck you elricjs' for me?

-E

that repeating bit "show them" part --always sounds like "angouleme"

I mean, I know it's obviously not, but it's what I always hear.

maybe cause I wanna go there to the comic art convention so much....

so i edited the title and i'm adding some more stuff here, why make a lot of topics when like only 5 of us care? ;P

Sun Down (Credit to Nothinger)
-----------------------------------
[6:17]

And I don't need the questions
And I don't need your answers
And I don't need your questions

I've never knew just what I am to see me now
is all I have to you

[7:34]

I... [repeat]

Sun Rise
-------------------------------------
[5:38]

sun rise
on the inside
let streams
flood your outside

The Playgrounds Are Empty
--------------------------------
[1:02]
oceans
drain us
fires
hold me
hold us
lull(ed) us
the playgrounds are empty

repeat full verse x2

I think this is spot on other than one bit I'm not sure of. I don't hear the "and curse them". But that could be me. I haven't listened to these tracks very much yet. But other than that, it seems perfect. Of course, I would have done my spacing a bit differantly, LOL.

This seems spot on perfect to me as well and there is no "word that you can never get". It's a drumbeat that gets caught up in the sound of the words. But other than that, yeah. This is the one to go with. Oh yeah. And in the first verse he does say "why we are not perfect" rather than "why we not perfect". It's really soft but it is there. It may not be in the first verse but I KNOW I heard it in the repeat/third verse. That's my 2 cents in.

Peace!

This is right also, except I think he is saying "lulled" which would go better with the d sound he has going on in that section of the lyrics. Could just be me though.

And I refuse to work on Sunrise/Sundown. I actually don't like them. There's very litt;e Jesu that I can say that about but I just don't care for it. They seem like bad "wish I could be Heartache" material. So you guys are on your own there.

Peace!

oddly enough Runabout120 - I just emailed PoetryKrowe my take on 'My Own Light' as I'm pretty sure it's right but i wanted another set of ears to listen, and see if i really missed something.

But i'll post it here - he's hopefully getting back to me sometime soon, or someone else might know. It's a bitch partly cuz there's only one version (no live versions or remixes) and it's so low budget-ish - but here's my best take on it thus far:

My Own Light
-----------------
[0:25]
I'll close my eyes
I'll shut my mind
Feel my own light
My own shine

Watch, Sight

[1:10]
Not my face
Don't need the sights
Not need the world (war?)
No one will know

Own Light

My Own Light x4

Watch, Sight

Own Light x4

-------------------------
I'll fix it or update it when he gets back to me =)

golem, this is not true.

unlike dead languages, english is still evolving, and in this sense you are like a wild frontiersman or a fearless astronaut, cutting boldly ahead, pushing and shaping things to the future benefit of the timid majority.

Wound huh? well, i spent some time with Wound in the past when i was listening to the 'Tiny Tears' section of Streetcleaner (the CD bonus tracks, that was rumored to be an unreleased EP back then).

Today tho, I sat down and listened to it fresh and jotted down what i heard, pulled out the old notes, chuckled, and revised. Wound was done live a number of times on some bad sounding early live stuff, and i noticed the lyrics changed/shifted spots etc.. so justin either screwed up or changed it live. And since Godflesh recorded this at least a few times: Wounds (13 min version that was tacked onto the Godflesh EP, and sounds like a 'jam session' ala Pure II), Wound (Streetcleaner) and Wound '91 (Slavestate CD or Slateman release 12" or split Cold World CD reissue). And they did it on the Peel Sessions.

One more note about the Streetcleaner version, the last line in the first verse IS different than the other versions, why I dunno.

So having read all that... Here's my CURRENT WORKING VERSION (in other words there's missing lines and maybe a questionable word or two):

Wounds (Godflesh EP) 13:06
-----------------------------------------
[3:51] (with mega reverb/echo)
Die

Silent

[***breaks down to just machine at 6-ish mark***]

[8:04]
Die

Silent

*some other word*

Wound

(lot of reverbed noisy shit in here)

Discipline?

Sun Still

Sun Shines

?

Missing

Shine

Wound (Streetcleaner Version) 3:06
----------------------------------------------
[0:16]
surveil over buildings
the sun still shines
streets are empty
your little betrayals

[1:39]
to move with such grace
you must be silent
betrayal wounds
i die
alone

Wound '91 (Slavestate CD/Slateman 12") 4:24
-------------------------------------------------
[0:19]
so high over buildings
the sun still shines
streets are empty
you live with [chaos?] [this line is different than streetcleaner version]

[1:46]
you move with such grace
you must be silent
betrayals
I die
alone

BTW Runabout120, did 'My Own Light' sound right to you?

-E

"Wound '91 (Slavestate CD/Slateman 12")"

THAT WAS ALSO A 7" THANK YOU VERY MUCH! Very Happy

Hey thanks for that.. We used to sorta jam Wound at practice and I just mumbled all the time except for the BETRAYAL part cause thats all I could figure out heh.

Justin changed shit live all the time.. Either couldnt remember the proper lyrics or just had something different to say heh. Its all over alot of those old live boots..

yeah, awesome Elricj, thanks much for it. Both lyrics are very helpfull for me. Wound/Wound'91/Wounds or a lot of Wound live tracks i tried to figure out what the correct lines are on this track. Just the line "streets are empty" is 100% clean to hear, all other lines i was a bit unsure.

But the lyrics on "My Own Light".... it was just a fvcking myth to me... hehe

You know, it's a bit hard to figure out the lyrics on a track as My Own Light for a german as me. And *my* english isn't very good btw. Just hope all of you know what i triyng to tell here on the board all the time Surprised

Ok i guess someone has post a thread before with those lyrics sometime (maybe on the old board) so i misread it.
Hm... well, there's a few other tracks like "Godhead", "Dead Head"or "Suction" i would like to know. Or the voices (samples) on "Streetcleaner 2" and "Devastator" !
But ok, thanks again for the both tracks. Should be enough for now.

I've worked on "Dead head" and "suction" before. I'll give them a re-look when i have some free time. like I said before, sometimes i'm wrong on a line and know it, and right now, i've been kicking an email with 'Godhead' in it back and forth with (poetry)Krowe. He's already figured out one of the lines I was unsure of. usually when i see the 'right' lyric and listen to it, it just 'clicks' in the brain.

As for being German, I'm American and i'm sure some of the lines I screw up are due to British vs American pronuncation - but I find it fun to do it.. so..

One of these days I'd like to see lyrics for everything Godflesh. Crumbling Flesh has a lot but its' still not complete. I really wanted 'In All Languages' to have that 'complete lyric book', but that didn't happen. Alas.

Mono- So where's the TAB man? My hack ass guitar skills don't cut it. I'm too alterna-rock and non-industrial apparently. ;P

Im pretty sure I submitted Love Hate Slugbaiting to godflesh.com yeeeeears ago.
Alot of that shit up there is mine heh.

TABs?? Thats another thing I promised Slateman for years too after seeing all the wrong shit posted up there heh. Some people couldnt even figure out the tuning and it always made me go WHAT??
Just a couple years ago I found a good tab program finally for the mac.
I just dont really have that much time but maybe I could a few?
Any requests in particular heh?

oh that's an easy one I did that one a while ago, and submitted it as well, Slateman didnt' put it up, so maybe there's a goof? Mono might know it since he did one too apparently. =)

Love, Hate (Slugbaiting)
-------------------------------------------------------------
[4:02]
Feel the elation
feel the doubts

Slug, Bait
Love, Hate
Slug, Bait
Love, Hate

[5:30]
Slugbaiting the love
without need
to say at all
BAIT
Raw doubt
All erasing

Slug, Bait
Love, Hate
Slug, Bait
Love, Hate

Slug, Bait
Love

It's not like I write them golem. I just type out what i hear. then listen to it about 10x times and try and figure out the bits i didn't get before. Then usually leave it alone for a while and get 'fresh' ears.

Like I said before - I don't believe this is 100% right (you can see the guessed words by the notes next to them, for these 2 songs. But otherwise it's right.

It was nice to listen to this again, cuz I changed a few lines in Suction that I had goofed up before. 'burn out little town' seems correct. the echo and panning on that track sucks to figure out tho.

As for deadhead, I posted this version to Slateman a long time ago. I have never seen either of these 2 tracks on a bootleg, and my personal opinion is that Slate thinks it's wrong based on teh fact it uses 'dying ocean' in the lyrics just like the song 'slateman'. Repeated motif aside tho, I think it's right.

Dead Head
--------------------------------------------------
[0:21]
dying ocean
dead head
watchin the figures
march without soul

[1:07]
observe the pages
same place
without your sky
full of me
full of me

[2:37]
dying ocean
dead head
watchin the figures
walk without soul
without soul
without soul

Suction
--------------------------------------------------
[0:35]
with bloodshot eyes
Without illusions
with skin - that's you and me
with out - that's you and me

[1:14]
by the river town
burn out little town
with skin - that's you, me
with (?) - that's you and me

I really love the 'tiny tears ep/bonus tracks' so it's one of my favorite things to play. I don't think I'm gonna bother with the samples in streetcleaner 2 / devastator tho, sorry. But I could waste my time trying to figure out other tracks I haven't taken a swing at before, or fixing goofs in the ones i have.

Damn dude I dont even know how you can make out any of that shit on Dead Head or Suction. Vocal effects always fucked it up for me. But then again you probably have better ears then me at this point haha.

Mono, while i prolly haven't damaged them badly with amplifiers in about 8 years, i assume i have done some damage overall =/

But I did just make an edit to Suction's lyrics tonight, i was still bothered by it not being 'right' in parts still.

Quote:

As for this track - here's the trick I'm using. Okay, for this song the key is not to overpower the speakers to REALLY loud levels, medium is good, then make sure you can get some seperation of channels (i just use my 5 point system and spread out the L,R channels really far). Then I play the track, get 'used' to the 'sound' of the recording.

I play it again, and focus entirely on just the vocal bit on the left channel - there's 2 JKB voices or one then the reverbed/echo'd one [however you like to 'split' it]. So the goal is to kinda listen for words, while not 'forcing' yerself to hear something that's NOT there. So for a line like in the 2nd verse "Burn out little town" - the goal is to listen to the first word then listen for the repeat of that word in the right channel and make sure it's in the clearer part of the echo. 'burn....(echo) burn' kinda. It's not easy to explain i guess. It's not complicated even tho I'm typing a lot of shit here tho. Then its' just count the sounds (syllables if you like) listen for hard constanants or lack of (t/d and s sounds) and jot it down. Then I just repeat it a few dozen times til I either have to give up like 'WTF IS THAT WORD, ARGGHH!) or take a break, clear my head and do it again.

And that's more than likely a fuck of lot more than you really needed/wanted to know :P

-E

Streetcleaned: Edited a bunch of shit tonight including Sun DOWN - would someone give it a listen and tell me i'm not crazy?

Thx
