Just wondering if anyone's shelling out the money for this ? I looked into it and it would cost me $36. Not counting shipping to the U.S. That is a little too steep for 4 bonus tracks.
Anyone think these tracks will be available elsewhere? Itunes,Amazon, etc. |

Unlikely to be available elsewhere. These tracks are generally put on as Japanese exclusives to convince Japanese buyers to pay the extortionate local prices rather than buying on import.

So what are the bonus track like? Is worth forking out the extra money for? |

Fools (alternative version), Birth Day (alternative version) and King of Kings (alternative version) are basically the same songs, but mixed quite different. The 'crushing' guitars are almost gone, and the drums are louder in the mix, and have a lot more depth to them. I think that many people in here will like the drum sound a lot more on these alternative versions, but I guess it also proves that the sound JKB went for on the album was intentional. As for the vocals, they have less reverb on the alternative version.
King of Pride is a Pale Skether'ish remix of King of Kings, but with less electronics.
So even though the bonus tracks are ok, I prefer the "original" (I guess we'll never know which was the original) versions, since the guitar is the main part of the album for me. I guess that if you have heard the bonus version of Defleated from Opiate Sun, you'll have a pretty good idea of what JKB has changed. Only, they're much better, coz the bonus version of Defleated sucked |

It did for me earlier, although the dude didn't stick around for long enough
I went ahead and got the Caldo Verde version last month. Glad I did now looking at the prices above! I only own the import of Conqueror because I love the Sun Down/Sun Rise bonus disc so no big loss for me.

Yeah, I dig the Deflated demo though, different kind of more indie like vibe to it but I prefer the original much more. King Of Pride sounds kind of similiar in style to the I Can Only Dissapoint You Dub then. |

Yeah kind of. Only with a lot less DUB to it .
I own both versions of all the Jesu releases that Daymare put out, but since I actually waited for this one to come out, I think I'll stick with the Jap version of Ascension. I don't think the price is so bad actually, but then again that might just be me... |

Been listening to this more or less constantly since I got it, and it is now safe to say that I really like it. My guess that it will be on of those albums which in the future will be very emotional since it will remind me of June 2011. A good thing
Anywho, did anyone notice that static noise that starts half way through December? At first I thought the jack for my headphones was fucked, that the kind of noise I'm talking about. It's a damn shame that it's there, since the last part of December is one of the album highlights.
Maybe it's only on the japanese version?--- Nope, it's also on youtube, and people are complaining there also.... How can something like this slip through to the actual CD? |

Apparently alot of people notived. It was brought up on his Facebook page. Hos response was :
It's not a fault, I'm afraid to say, it's a delay / echo on one of the room mic's on the drum recording, it was intended to add a little 'space' on that section of the song, clearly it failed since it's been interpreted as some sort of fault or 'scratch', oh well...
Alot of people, including me, thought we had defective cd's... |

Aah, thanks for clearing that up, I must have missed that thread on fb. Great album nevertheless... |

@ nhtp: I'm glad someone else thinks so,.,there's no love for this album right now, but I'm sure some will jump on the bandwagon over time. ASCENSION = A SOLID ROCK RECORD. |

Just had a listen to the bonus tracks (cheers you know who!).
Birth Day (alt.) is better than the original. I just like the reduced sound package a bit more. It's still a mediocre track though. The melody just doesn't speak to me. Fools (alt.) is on par with the original version. Maybe edging slightly towards the original for its abrasiveness, one of the better moments on the entire album.
King of Kings (alt.) does its best. I like the alternate melodic lines in the vocals but music wise, the original is still better and fuller. Some nice synths though.
King of Pride: very interesting: I very much like the drum machine in this one, primitive and a bit of a throwback to godflesh. But the vocals and some of the guitar snaps are out of place. |

| I've only given it a few spins, but I'm enjoying it. Definitely seems like one of those albums that grows with each listen. I really like the use of clean guitars, particularly the opener. Haven't heard the alternative mixes but I'm generally done with spending $30.00 on a CD I already own. Suspect there is other ways to hear them. |

Still haven't heard the bonus tracks yet. "Fools" is my fave from Ascension right now.
If anyone wanted to help me hear these tracks....I wouldn't mind.

FYI, for anyone that hasn't already done so... Justin has confirmed that Aural Exploits are shit!
From Twitter:
For those who ordered 'Ascension' on vinyl from Aural Exploits. They won't reply to my mails either, consider making a Paypal claim ASAP.
I just filed a claim and I'm thinking about driving up to the office to see if it's just a burnt out crackhouse! |

Yeah, just saw this too. Kinda glad I'm not a vinyl person.
I imagine that JKB is pretty pissed about it... |
